The Method
Unexpectedly Understood isn’t a typical travel blog. It’s built around a simple idea: what happens when you actually try to speak someone’s language before you arrive? Not fluently — just enough to show you made the effort. Before each trip, I spend time learning a handful of survival phrases, practising real situations, and preparing to use them in the field. Then I go, I try, and I document what unfolds — the moments that would never have happened if I’d defaulted to English. The connections, the laughter, the occasional confusion. This is a record of that process, shared in the hope that it encourages others to do the same.
