Twelve short Scots lines a visitor can use. Say them out loud once before the day. Video embeds can sit under each line later.
Arrival & getting around
- Aye — Yes. Soft agreement.
- Naw — No.
- Cheers — Thanks (also goodbye in casual context).
- Where’s the nearest bus stop? — Straight ask; clear and polite.
Food & drink
- A piece and… — A sandwich with… (e.g. “a piece and ham”).
- Can I get a table for one? — Café / pub.
- What’s the soup today? — Easy opener with staff.
- That was lovely, thanks. — Close a meal politely.
Small talk
- It’s pure freezing the day. — Weather small talk (“the day” = today).
- How’re you getting on? — Friendly “how are you?”.
- I stay nearby. — “Stay” = live (not hotel).
- See you later. — Casual goodbye.
Tip: aim to use three of these in real conversation on Day 1 — not all twelve.
